Syracuse ties No. 10 Colgate, 2-2, on Danielle Leslie’s late goal

Danielle Leslie’s first goal of the season, with three minutes left in regulation, saved Syracuse from its first loss of 2016, as the Orange (8-10-3, 5-1-2 College Hockey America) tied No. 10 Colgate (10-3-6, 2-1-4 ECAC) in a 2-2 draw on Monday night.

Breanne Wilson-Bennett scored Colgate’s first goal of 2016 with 7:15 left in the first period, giving the Raiders a 1-0 lead. Syracuse and Colgate both had five shots in the opening period.

Syracuse’s Megan Quinn would respond with her fifth goal of the year midway through the second period to tie the game. But the Raiders would take a 2-1 advantage into the second intermission thanks to Olivia Zafuto, who scored with just a minute remaining in the second period.

In the third period, Leslie scored her second career goal with 3:44 left in regulation to tie the game at 2-2. It was also Leslie’s second game-tying goal in her SU career, as the senior scored two years ago in the third period against Penn State to force overtime.

Syracuse goalie Jenn Gilligan saved 20-of-22 shots on Monday night.

The Orange have a week off before traveling east to Schenectady, New York to face Union at 7 P.M. on Tuesday, January 12.
