Julian Buescher, who is tied with Ben Polk for the team lead in points, and the Orange have jumped six spots in the NSCAA poll.

Despite a 2-1 loss to North Carolina, Syracuse (8-3-1, 2-2-1 Atlantic Cost) jumped from No. 22 to No. 16 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll this week.

The jump is the Orange’s second in two weeks. After being ranked No. 15 in the country before the season started, SU fell out of the rankings and was voted back in last week at No. 22.

SU grabbed a quick lead, but allowed two late goals to the Tar Heels in the loss. On Oct. 6, the Orange beat Albany, 2-1, after last week’s rankings were released. The Orange has not beat any of the ranked opponents it has played this season.

The ACC placed four teams — No. 2 North Carolina, No. 4 Clemson, No. 5 Wake Forest and No. 7 Notre Dame — in the top 10. Three ACC teams landed lower than SU, including No. 19 Virginia, No. 23 North Carolina State and No. 25 Boston College.

The Orange plays Bowling Green (6-5-1, 0-1 Mid-American) at 7 p.m. on Tuesday and will play No. 4 Clemson (10-1-2, 3-1-1) on Saturday at 7 p.m. at SU Soccer Stadium.
