Syracuse gets transfer Nick Mariano

Massachusetts’ leading scorer Nick Mariano will transfer to Syracuse, a high school teammate confirmed to The Daily Orange. Joe Lombardi of LaxLessons.com first reported Mariano’s transfer.

The lefty attack totaled 22 goals and 20 assists in 15 games as a sophomore this past season. He scored 29 goals and 10 assists as a freshman and had started all 28 of the Minutemen’s games in the last two seasons.

Five of SU’s six top scorers this past season won’t return, including attacks Randy Staats, Kevin Rice and midfielder Nicky Galasso. Attack Dylan Donahue has one season of eligibility remaining.

Mariano will team up with former Yorktown (New York) High School teammate redshirt freshman defender Austin Fusco.
