Syracuse has been named the No. 2 overall seed in the 2015 NCAA tournament, and will play the winner of Marist and Bryant in the first round next Sunday at 7:30 in the Carrier Dome.

Notre Dame is the No. 1 overall seed despite losing the Atlantic Coast Conference semifinals. The Orange is the No. 1 team in the nation according to the Inside Lacrosse poll, and won the ACC tournament, but did not garner the top seed in the tournament.

SU finished the season as the top-ranked team in the country, with a 12-2 overall record and an Atlantic Coast Conference tournament championship to its name. Syracuse’s only two losses came by a combined three goals to then-No. 2 Notre Dame on March 28 and then-No. 4 North Carolina on April 11.

SU scored the third-most goals per game (14.5) of any team in the country and held opponents to single-digit goal totals nine times.

Senior attack Kevin Rice is sixth in the country with 4.86 points per game, junior attack Dylan Donahue ranks eighth in the country with 3.14 goals per game and sophomore faceoff specialist Ben Williams is the nation’s second-best at the X with a 67.6-percent success rate.

Last season, Syracuse lost to Bryant in the first round of the NCAA tournament, and has a chance to rematch against the Bulldogs again. If SU wins its first-round matchup this year, it will play its quarterfinal game in Annapolis, Maryland on May 17.
