AJ Long reportedly expects to redshirt sophomore season

Rising sophomore quarterback AJ Long expects to redshirt this upcoming season, he told a group of reporters at Tuesday night’s media availability. News Channel 9’s Shannon Shepherd was the first to report it via Twitter.

Long made his collegiate debut against then-No. 1 Florida State on Oct. 11 and threw two touchdowns, becoming the first true freshman in SU history to do that.

In six total games in 2014, Long threw for 935 yards and ran for a net loss of four. SU only won one game during that time, a 30-7 victory over Wake Forest on Oct. 18.

If Long is to redshirt, the Orange’s crop of quarterbacks would consist of rising senior Terrel Hunt, rising junior Austin Wilson, incoming freshman Eric Dungey and preferred walk-on Zack Mahoney.
