SU announces date for open forum on campus diversity issues

An open forum will be held on Oct. 2 to discuss diversity, inclusion and respect on campus, Syracuse University announced Friday afternoon.

The forum will take place from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Hendricks Chapel. Vice Chancellor and Provost Eric Spina and Dean of Student Affairs Rebecca Reed Kantrowitz are working with student leaders to plan the event, according to the release.

Chancellor Kent Syverud will attend the forum and more details will be announced in the next few days, according to the release.

The university announced plans for the open forum in September, shortly after Hanna Strong, an SU women’s soccer player, was videotaped calling an unidentified person a “n*gger-a** f*gg*t.” The video quickly spread on Twitter and Strong was indefinitely suspended from the soccer team.

The SU Department of Public Safety and the Office of Equal Opportunity, Inclusion and Resolution Services are currently investigating the incident.
