SU student dies in car crash early Thursday morning

UPDATED: July 29, 9:54 p.m.

A sophomore in the College of Arts and Sciences died Thursday.

Miles Reme died as the result of injuries sustained in a car accident in Ridgefield, N.J., according to a campus-wide email. He was 20 years old. Reme was riding in a car with two former high school classmates when the driver lost control of the car and  swerved across the road, striking a building, according to an article from northjersey.com.

The accident occurred at about 1:30 a.m. and Reme was pronounced dead at Hackensack University Medical Center a little more than an hour later. Authorities did not say whether they had determined a cause of the accident, but were examining whether speed was a factor, according to the article.

In a message to the Syracuse University community, Rebecca Reed Kantrowitz, dean of student affairs, said Reme had been a member of the Day and Flint Hall communities.

Kevin Quinn, SU’s senior vice president of public affairs, said the university learned of Reme’s death over the weekend.
